Sharing Worktop documents
A Worktop document might not be what you think it would be. It's not like a Word document which you can
copy and distribute freely. A Worktop document (.wtd file) is only a placeholder and contains several
links to other files. It refers to:
- a .bwc file. This file holds the Baan configuration settings like hostname and BSE.
- a .sct file located in the \templates directory of the Worktop installation. This holds general server configurations (for example DEM settings).
- a .gct file located in the \templates directory of the Worktop installation. This file holds the UI personalizations.
When you want to copy a document to another machine, this is the best way to accomplish that;
- Copy the .bwc file to the other machine
- Export the shortcuts you created from the Worktop document on the original machine
using the File->Import and Export->Export Shortcut(s) menu option.
- Create a new Worktop document on the other machine and use the File->Import and
Export->Import Shortcut(s) menu option to import the shortcuts you created in the previous step.
If you want to share a document with multiple users, the best option is to make use of Central Deployment.
However, in such a scenario you want multiple users to be able to write to the same document, and that is
impossible in such an environment. The document can only be adjusted on the machine where it was created on.
But since personalizations are in practice only the shortcuts, you can export them on the client and import those
onto the Worktop server.
