How to determine the ODBC Data Source Name

For some connection types you are asked to enter a Data Source Name (DSN) for the ODBC connection to the database.

Contact your DBA to determine the correct DSN. You may be helped by the following hints to determine the DSN value, but it is not the intention of these help files to give a comprehensive instruction about ODBC settings.

On Windows machines, Data Source settings for ODBC are accessible via the Control Panel (depending on your Windows version ODBC settings are grouped under Administrative Tools).

On Unix platforms, see your database documentation for driver- and/or platform specific details. Some hints:

• Check environment variable ODBCINI to determine the location of the odbc.ini file and open it to determine valid DSN values.
• Alternatively, use the odbcconfig utility (if available). The path to this utility may have been set in environment variable INSTHOME.
