Use of Orbix in autonomous mode with IP Loopback. 1- Start-> Settings -> Control Panel, Double-click on System, choose the Hardware Profiles tab. Select your Network Profile (if you don't have one select Original Configuration), and click Copy. Choose a name for your new profile (ex. Planner Demo Profile) and Click OK. 2- In Control Panel, double-click Network. Choose the Adapters tab. Click on Add. Choose Ms Loopback Adapter from the list and click OK. Select the 802.3 frame type, OK. Click Close. When the TCP-IP configuration window pops up, select the Ms-Loopback Adapter from the drop-down box listing the Network adapters. Choose "Specify an IP Address". Do not choose DHCP! Type in an IP address, for example 204.19.38.20 (it doesn't matter which address since you will be in loopback mode). Type in a subnet mask (accept the default mask presented). Click OK. A box will pop up and tell you that there is no primary WINS address. That's OK since you won't be using WINS. When the computer prompts you to restart, Do not restart the computer (choose NO). If you restart the computer you will have problems! 3- In Control Panel, double-click Devices. Look for the device named NDISLoop. Select it and click on the HW Profiles button. Choose Enable for your Planner profile and Disable for all of your other hardware profiles. Click OK. Now find the driver for your NIC (Network Adapter). For laptops it will most probably be a 3COM driver. Select it, click on the HW Profiles button and Disable it for your Planner profile. If you have a No Network dialup profile it should be disabled for this profile also. To test your Planner profile: Restart your computer. When prompted choose your Planner profile. Once the machine has completely booted up, log in. You should get the message: No Domain Controller is available. This is normal since you are not logging on to the network but your network capabilities are enabled for Planner. Start a DOS prompt and type: ipconfig. You should only see the IP address you entered and Subnet Mask of the MS Loopback Adapter (NDISLoop). If you see any other IP addresses it means that your Network card has not been Properly disabled for the Planner profile. Refer to step 3 above.
